"Hello! I'm Mika,

As a certified Japanese language tutor with 16 years of experience, I am passionate about helping students achieve their language goals. I have a great sense of what students really need and want. Teaching Japanese is not just my profession, this is my passion!

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in English and a Secondary Education Minor from a Japanese university, and I also graduated from a Japanese language school to become a certified teacher.

I am fluent in both English and Japanese, with advanced proficiency in Spanish (B1 level) and Portuguese (A1 level).

Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of teaching students ranging in age from 5 to 80 years old. Each student's goals are unique, whether it's preparing for the JLPT or AP Japanese exams, completing assignments, or simply enjoying the journey of learning the language and culture.

My teaching philosophy is centered around understanding your personal goals and creating customized lessons to help you achieve them. I offer a variety of courses including:

I use a range of teaching materials such as Genki 1 and 2, Tobira 1 and 2, Minna no Nihongo, JLPT workbooks, kanji workbooks, NHK news, audio resources, and more.

A bit about me: I grew up in Japan and have lived in various places including Georgia, Florida, São Paulo, Tokyo, and now Arizona. These experiences have allowed me to meet many wonderful people and understand the challenges and joys of learning new languages. I also enjoy learning new languages myself, which enhances my teaching approach.

On a personal note, I love cats and have four of my own.
