"Hi, I'm Seth. I have a Bachelor's in physics with a minor in mathematic, as well as a Certification in Science Communication to improve my communication ability. As a member of the Society of Physics Students, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Acoustical Society of America, the past 5 years of my life has been filled with bringing even the most challenging concepts down to earth and into the student's comfort zone.
Starting out as a tutor for middle to high school aged students in algebra when I was 19, I expanded this interest to assisting in over 10 physics classes of 20+ students each, covering subjects in calculus, kinematics, electricity, magnetism, optics, atomic/nuclear physics, and more. 5 years later, I am currently teaching an after-school algebra program at the Austin International School for 7th and 8th graders, as well as substitute teaching for the Austin Independent School District. As one of my professors put it, I have everything it takes to be a professor, except the degree.
This past summer, I led a 3-week private school on nuclear physics, teaching kids aged 13 to 17 (as well as their parents) about the history and science behind the nuclear efforts during WWII. Given a pre- and post-examination, average student scores in physics increased by 50% after 8 hour-long sessions. These results were achieved by my personalized approach to teaching, meeting the student at their level, and maximizing patience and empathy every step of the way. I believe that anybody can learn anything, as long as they are able to find how they learn it best.
I always look forward to working with new students of all ages. Whatever your goals are, I am here to help you overcome your current challenges in math and science, big or small!" less...
