"Ashleigh B. holds a Master of Arts in Literatures of Modernity and a Bachelor's degree in English Literature with a Minor in Law from Toronto Metropolitan University.
Ashleigh has extensive teaching experience across diverse educational settings. She currently teaches AP English and Language Arts at IDEA Victory Public School, where she supports high school students in developing their analytical thinking, reading comprehension, and writing skills. Her curriculum is structured to engage students through daily bell ringers, in-class assessments, exit tickets, and mid- and end-of-unit tests. Ashleigh’s teaching approach is analytical and designed to encourage deep engagement with complex texts, helping students build critical skills necessary for academic success.
Prior to her current role, Ashleigh worked as a Teaching Assistant and Grading Assistant at Toronto Metropolitan University, which enriched her pedagogical knowledge and enhanced her teaching abilities. As a Teaching Assistant, she facilitated class discussions and offered one-on-one support to undergraduate students navigating challenging material in literature and cultural studies. Her ability to simplify complex theories and relate them to students’ experiences made her highly effective in adapting explanations for diverse learning styles. This experience also allowed her to identify and address specific learning challenges, a skill she now applies in her tutoring approach.
Ashleigh’s teaching experience includes a focus on high school students, particularly in Grade 9, and spans both classroom settings and one-on-one tutoring. At Sylvan Learning Center, she worked directly with students to help them strengthen their reading and writing skills. Her experience with a wide range of students enables her to design lessons that connect with students’ backgrounds and interests, showing them how literature can offer insights into broader social issues." less...
