Like learning how to play a game, once you learn the rules and some basic strategy, you can start to see the bigger picture and the problems become easier. I find that once students learn and understand some fundamental concepts and see how they can be applied, they can experience a sudden realization of how the individual pieces fit together.
One of my favorite parts of being tutor is being able to ask specific questions to find what each student is having difficulty understanding. There may be only a small piece of the puzzle that is tripping them up and keeping them from seeing the full picture. Once we identify more specifically what the student is struggling with, I provide just enough help to allow the student to get on the right track so that they can make the important connections for themselves. For my tutoring technique, I like to incorporate a combination of visual aids, example problems, simplified examples that illustrate a specific topic, real-world problems, and explicit theorems depending on the students needs and their personal learning style.
During my time in college, I acted as a tutor to younger students and my peers. I've also volunteered as a tutor for high school students for a local community center that offers after school help for local kids. Currently, I work as a Calculus tutor in my free time for an online tutoring service. I am able to tutor Calculus as well as all the prerequisite material (Geometry, Algebra, and Pre-Calculus).
Please feel free to contact me if you're interested in my tutoring service. No matter if you have specific questions that you want cleared up before an exam, if you need a topic or concept explained in more detail, or if you just need someone to help you while you work through homework problems, I can help. I look forward to hearing from you." less...
