"I have 18 years of experience teaching in grades 2-5 in a diverse setting where many students have special needs, IEPs, and language limitations. In such classrooms teachers must learn to adjust their teaching to the ability and learning style of the students. This has become a passion of mine, as I want to help each student achieve to their full potential. I took graduate classes to get a certification in gifted education so I would have a better understanding of how students learn and how to spot gifted students with exceptional needs.

During my tenure I have taught math, reading, writing, science, and social studies. Each content area holds a special significance, as I have seen students excel in each area and seen the proverbial light turn in when the student starts to understand and make applications from the meaning of the material. This is when I know they truly understand the material.

I believe in making learning fun and enjoy getting to know my students so I can relate the teaching to things that interest them. I do have high expectations and expect my students to complete assignments and be honest about what they understand or what is giving them trouble. This will allow them to get the most benefit from my teaching. Since I am blocking off time in my schedule, I do have a 2 hour cancellation policy. If you find that you are unable to meet at a scheduled time, you must notify at least 2 hours before the scheduled time. I will give you the same consideration if I have a conflict arise.

I did not live science as a student. I found it confusing. This has made me dive in deeper to understand the science I teach.
