"I was captivated by computers at an early age, joined the military to train as a computer operator, and eventually found my way into computer programming. Although COBOL was not my first programming language, it is by far my favorite language, mainly because it encourages a structured manner of thinking and coding. I have mastered many specialized techniques in COBOL, and authored teaching documents to pass my knowledge on to my programming peers.
Programming in general provides an opportunity to create , and COBOL, with it's ability to access a wide variety of file structures and database formats is the perfect canvas to support creativity in coding.
I have been employed as a COBOL programmer for over 30 years, and have spent the majority of that time as a developer on projects large and small. I have always sought the most difficult and complicated programming tasks, as I enjoy the challenge of creating a program that is easy to read and maintain, always thinking of those peers who will be responsible for future support of the code.
