"Hello! My name is Jesse (he/him)--I have a master's degree in physics from the University of Washington (UW), Seattle and I graduated magna cum laude from UW with a bachelor's degree in physics and math. I worked with UW’s Physics Education Research Group for 6 years, I have 5+ years of experience as a TA for UW physics courses, and I've been regularly tutoring college students one-on-one in math and/or physics for 10+ years.  I have formal tutor training through CLUE, the UW’s late-night study center on campus, and I was the lead math tutor there for 3.5 years. In 2022, I received the UW Physics Department's Graduate Student Excellence in Teaching Award, nominated by students. I’m currently a part-time physics instructor at North Seattle College.

At this time, I tutor exclusively online so I'm happy to work with you regardless of where you live or go to school. My general tutoring approach is to first figure out what difficulties you have with the material, and then to ask guiding questions to help you not only better understand the material, but learn how to be more of an independent learner.  To that end, I’ll additionally often work with you on identifying and using resources that could help--be it your class notes, your textbook, or supplemental online resources--but I generally won’t re-teach the material from scratch or just provide answers.  What we focus on in a given session though is up to you: we can discuss concepts/theory, go over homework problems you’re stuck on, talk about test prep and test-taking strategies, etc.

I understand that math and physics can be very challenging, but I think the challenges can be overcome with dedication and a positive mindset. If you think you can get better at math/physics and seek help when you need it, you *will* get better, and perhaps come to enjoy math/physics more as a result! My primary goal as a tutor is to help you with this process as best I can.

Let me know if you have any questions or if you'd like to set up a session!" less...
