"Hi there! I have a PhD in Statistics and Operations Research with extensive teaching and tutoring experience. I have continuously taught undergraduate and master's level courses in mathematics, statistics, probability, economics, optimization and stochastic modeling during the 5 years' time as a PhD Candidate, including summers. For several semesters, I was the teaching assistant to data analysis and inference, decision models in economics, and stochastic modeling courses, helping students through regular office hours and one-on-one tutoring sessions. I have also tutored quite a few students for these classes, as well as other courses on optimization, simulation, probability and discrete mathematics. I also have one semester experience of teaching (as the sole instructor) the introductory statistics and inference course in-class to about 40 students.
My approach to tutoring is to first cover the topic in general, going over the concepts and solving some example problems, and spending extra time on parts that will be the foundation for other topics. This is typically followed by solving some practice questions/homework problems and specific issues that you might have with the material. My general philosophy in teaching is that I, as much as possible, do not give an answer to a problem outright, but rather help you find your way to the correct result by providing guidance at certain points. I try to ensure this by having the student walk me through their thinking process and steps in their solution, and me giving feedback and explanation (if needed) on each step. Although I believe this to be a good approach for learning a topic (not just passing the exam/course), I can always be flexible depending on each individual's needs when we hold our sessions.
I look forward to helping as many students as I can, and I am open to being flexible with setting up meeting times. Feel free to get in touch with me to discuss your needs or schedule our first session together." less...
