"I'm Christopher! I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Northeastern Illinois University in 2010 with a B.A. in Mathematics; I also have earned two masters degrees in mathematics: a M.A. in Mathematics from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2013 and a M.S. in Applied Mathematics from Michigan State University in 2020. I have 16 years experience tutoring students at the high school and collegiate level. I was a student math tutor at Harper College (2007-2010) and Northeastern Illinois University (2008-2010), a professional math tutor at Wright College (2014-2018) and a math tutor in the Math Learning Center at Michigan State University (2018-2020). I was recently hired as full-time math faculty at Midland College (2023-present); I also have 4 years experience teaching math courses at Wright College (2014-2018), and 2 years experience working as a graduate teaching assistant (University of California, Santa Cruz from 2012-2013; Michigan State University from 2019-2020).
I really enjoy helping people and I always go the extra mile for my students; several of my former professors did the same for me years ago and I wanted to approach teaching in a similar manner. I always strive to introduce material in an easy to understand manner and present several examples of various difficulties. While covering these examples, I mention common mistakes that are made and how to avoid them, as well as encouraging my students to think about what happens in cases where certain underlying assumptions aren't met or are changed to something else. I then give students time to work on additional practice problems similar to those covered in the examples and give them feedback on their work.
My current availability is set around my current teaching/work schedule. I'm fine with meeting in-person or online; feel free to send a request for help, and I'll do my best to accommodate you!" less...
