"I'm Sam! I am currently a senior in college at William & Mary, majoring in Biology.

During my time in college, I've realized that my most memorable and enjoyable classes weren't the ones I thought would be interesting based on the topic. Instead, it was the professors who made the classes enjoyable. My favorite classes were taught by professors who were engaging, comprehensible, and always willing to go out of their way to provide additional help. I bring this approach to my tutoring, doing whatever I can to make sure that learning is a fun and rewarding experience. Rather than focusing on memorization, I usually introduce the topic and concepts, and then focus on applying the information to novel scenarios, emphasizing critical and logical thinking to come to the right answer. Afterwards, I always allow time for letting students practice on their own, although this time can also be used to ask questions. I keep my messages and emails open and am willing to take follow-up questions outside of tutoring hours. Of course, I remain flexible and alter my methods based on each student and their individual needs.

I have a prior semester of experience as a biology TA and am a TA again this fall. In this role, I work with small groups of students (4-8) but also hosted review sessions for up to 30 students. I also answered individual questions from students and worked with them individually if they asked me to do so.

In addition, I began working as a private MCAT tutor in July, where I'm currently working one-on-one with individuals, answering their questions and also focusing on learning broad techniques for each type of question. I'm also qualified through Wyzant to do SAT and PSAT tutoring.
