"A little about me -- I've spent much of my career in corporate training -- mostly in IT training end-users as well as train-the-trainers sessions. I've also done consulting training sessions with my MBA alma mater, the RH Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland. And last, my wife and I ran a dance studio for nearly a decade where we taught adult education classes. My mantra through all of these different forms of teaching has been to adapt my teaching style to meet the needs of my students (rather than expecting your learning style to match my preferred way of teaching).
I'm offering tutoring in data transformation, visualization and analytics focusing in Tableau, SQL, MS Excel and MS Access with the goal of empowering students with better data literacy. This skillset is the core methodology to identify how to answer a business question and to generate that answer with understanding of its full context by including data concepts such as baselining, control limits/stability analysis and seasonality analysis.
My approach is an iterative one that starts with focus on a goal: what is the business or research question you are trying to answer? From their we will step through the refinement process of identifying:
1) What metrics/measurements should we use to answer that question?
2) What data do we have/need to conduct those measurements?
3) What data scrubbing and transformation do we need to do to make the data usable?
4) How can we make that data transformation happen?
5) Once that is complete, how can we visualize or plot the data to better understand it?
6) Once we've plotted the data, have we fully answered our primary question? Or are we left with unanswered questions? (and if so, we can use steps 1-6 again on those remainign questions)." less...
