"Hi, I'm Laken! I graduated from high school in the top 3 students of our graduating class and with a 4.5 GPA. I went on to graduate from the University of Texas at Austin a year early with a Bachelors of Science in Human Development and Family Sciences. After graduating from college, I embarked on my teaching career! In my 8 years of education experience, I have taught math in grades 6th-9th grade, ranging from remedial math, core math to Algebra I. During this time, I was given the distinction of an Advanced teacher from my school district. During my educator experience, I was also a Dean of Instruction, a role in which I managed and coached teachers are best teaching practices so that they may grow in their skills and thus grow their students' skills!
As a student, I scored 4s and 5s on my AP U.S. History, AP English III and English IV exams. On my SAT, I scored cumulatively in the writing and math section over 1300 (at the time of the exam, each section was weighted for 800 points each). Of the 7 high-quality colleges I applied to, I was accepted to 6, many of which alongside scholarships. In college, I scored in the 98th percentile in the writing portion on my GRE. I earned two certifications as a teacher in Texas for both 4th-8th Grade General subjects and 8th-12th Grade Mathematics.
From a young age, I understood the value and importance of learning. I worked incredibly hard in high school, and that work ethic continued through college and adulthood as a teacher. My love of learning transferred over into a love for teaching. I understood what it took to be an excellent student and learning, and they has turned into understanding how to grow a student to become a stronger and more efficient learner. My teaching experience has allowed me to grow my skill set on best practices for explaining and practicing concepts, and how to best individualize lessons based on students' needs and experiences." less...
