"Hi! I’m Cy Simonsgaard, a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT, Dyslexia Therapist, Reading Tutor) with over 12 years of experience helping learners with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences unlock their potential.
Personal Connection
As a parent of a young adult with multiple neurological challenges, I understand the journey of supporting a struggling reader. My years of experience, education, and research have taught me that success comes from using proven teaching methods, building strong, supportive connections, and delivering explicit, structured, multi-modal lessons. I'm passionate about guiding students to independent reading success and supporting families in this mission.
My Training and Approach
I hold an M.Ed. in multi-sensory reading education and have completed over 700 hours of advanced Orton-Gillingham training at the Atlantic Seaboard Dyslexia Education Center. I’m also trained in Structured Word Inquiry (SWI), Lindamood-Bell Visualizing and Verbalizing, Neuhaus, Winston Grammar, and William Van Cleave’s writing strategies, among others.
With over a decade of experience and specialized research into how reading skills develop, I design personalized instruction for each learner. I’ve also worked with the Kennedy Krieger Institute, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, gaining deeper insight into how the brain learns to read while working directly with students.
Why Choose Me?
I’ve helped learners of all ages, including those with dyslexia, ADHD, epilepsy, and language processing challenges. My mission is to guide every student toward confidence and independence in reading and writing.
