"Early Childhood Education has been my passion for 35+ years. In 2019 I retired after 33 years of teaching in public schools. I have a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education which covers strategies for working with children through age eight. I have a lifetime teaching certificate as well as National Board Certification. My experience includes working with children with Individual Educational Plans (IEP’s), facilitating reading intervention with small groups of children (K-1st grade), preschool classroom teacher and kindergarten classroom teacher. I also tutored one-to-one lower elementary students after school. For several years I developed and facilitated a summer enrichment program using fun, theme-based activities to enhance academic skills for grades PreK through 6th grade.

During my years in public education, I received extensive training in several different methods. These experiences provide me with the knowledge to assess students’ needs, develop appropriate strategies to use, facilitate activities, and monitor the progress of students. I use fun and exciting methods to engage children in lessons and adapt the lessons/activities as needed to fit each child.

Teaching is not reading a script – it is facilitating activities that develop all domains including cognitive, social, physical, and emotional. Children need to understand the concepts. Early childhood is where the foundation is built for more complex concepts. Instruction is not a one-size-fits-all. It requires being able to understand each child’s developmental level, their strengths and weaknesses, and what motivates them.

I enjoy working with young children and instilling the joy of learning in them. It is rewarding to watch a child grow and begin to understand new concepts. Even though I am no longer in a classroom setting I still have the desire to work with children on developing their new skills. That’s why I have chosen to tutor through Wyzant.
