"My name is Annette, and I possess undergraduate and graduate degrees from Columbia University. I have more than four decades of classroom instruction and tutorials. My first instructional experience was as an 8th grade teacher and counselor. I spent five years teaching elementary and junior high school before I transitioned to high school, college age and post college individuals. I provide students with a user-friendly environment that promotes communication, self-confidence, and academic success. In the event of an academic emergency, I can make myself available to students with little notice. I’ve helped students gain admission in NYC specialized high schools, Catholic schools and universities with scholarship offers with a 95% success rate.
I instill study skills and academic accountability into my tutelage. Students are expected to complete homework because, as I explain to them and their parents, homework is remediation, practice, supplement, and key components to scholastic success. The goal of tutoring is not to help students memorize material. Tutoring is complementary to the classroom experience and an extra boost in comprehension. I promote the notion that comprehension of a specific subject brings lifelong knowledge that remains after the exam has been taken and promotion to the next class has been achieved.
I have created courses for Wagner College and Antelope Valley College. I am currently teaching at the College of Staten Island where I instruct Freshmen, conduct lectures on various topics and advise students who are unsure of their career path. I have several published articles and co-authored the document-based textbook that is utilized by the College of Staten Island. My experience is varied, extensive and has resulted in student success." less...
