"My name is David. I have over twenty years’ experience teaching Latin, Italian, and English literature, language, and writing at the university level. I graduated summa cum laude in Classics and Italian with minors in History and Philosophy from the University of Texas and held a Fulbright Full Grant in Italy before earning my Ph.D. in Italian at Stanford University. I have taught at Yale, Stanford, and Notre Dame and I am currently working as a translator and writer located between Houston, Texas and Rome, Italy. I am easy to reach and have a flexible schedule. I am happy to tailor lessons to individual student needs.
I have several years’ experience teaching college-level writing in the humanities. I have worked with students in small groups and individually on improving their English writing skills and proofreading, editing, and fact-checking essays. I also have experience proofreading personal statements and other application materials for graduate and professional school applications.
I have taught English and world literature at the college level for two decades. I am currently teaching individual lessons on major authors of western literature, such as Homer, Vergil, Dante, Boccaccio, Petrarch, Chaucer, and Shakespeare, but also modern and contemporary authors commonly taught in schools.
I have years of experience bringing the Italian language to different levels of students and have advanced training in foreign language pedagogy, ACTFL proficiency testing, and I have a student-oriented approach to language learning.
I started tutoring Latin in college and have continued ever since. I enjoy seeing students gain a greater confidence with the language and, through Latin, with English as well.
For over 20 years I have taught English as a Second Language in Italy on a one-on-one basis to young adults and business professionals in person and online. I am up-to-date on current methodologies and I enjoy helping students gain confidence in speaking, reading, and writing." less...
