"For the past seventeen years, I’ve lived the discipline. I spent ten years reading and writing from three in the morning until eight at night, painting houses and working retail, saving enough to enroll in Kutztown University’s graduate school. There, I served as the graduate research assistant and writing tutor at the university’s writing center, which enabled me to pursue concurrent Master’s degrees in English and Secondary Education. I've since been an ELA instructor at Building 21 Allentown, where, working within their project-and-competency based model, I've learned to speak with students and help them create meaning through learning. I’ve learned how to talk to people, and pride myself on how my relationships have, infinitely more than my content and pedagogical knowledge, made a difference. Additionally, what instructional design skills I possess were identified and put to use in creating years’ worth of curriculum for the Building 21 Network, which has been implemented across the country." less...
