"I graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2009 with a degree in General Engineering and served as a Naval Flight Officer and Program Manager in the U.S. Navy for seven years. After leaving the service, I traveled around the world for two years visiting over twenty countries.
I began tutoring in middle school, helping students falling behind in reading and math. In high school, I formally tutored students in Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, English (comprehension and essay writing), and test prep. I have excelled in both the SAT and the ACT. In addition, I spent one academic year volunteering with Reading Partners, tutoring elementary reading and writing. One-on-one tutoring helps subject matter seem less daunting for students and the ability to zero in on problem areas and address them directly is extremely rewarding. I love making subjects more accessible to students while seeing them realize what they can accomplish.
As a believer in making subjects matter to students, I use real-world examples to provide relevance to students.
I have worked with a range of ages from five-year-olds to college-level students.
I completed an in-depth two-year AP American History course and continued courses at the Naval Academy. As an avid reader and researcher, I continue my education today and make the subject more interesting by speaking in everyday language, not just names and dates.
Learning doesn't have to be a struggle, I will take the time to work on different approaches with each individual student." less...
