"I'm Anissa! I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies, and a concentration in mathematics. I am currently in a teaching credential program, where I am studying to become an elementary school teacher. So, I love teaching students and I find great joy in helping others grasp new concepts. Now that I am in my teaching credential program, I am learning how to design lessons that engage and challenge students. I believe that a tutor needs to be very patient and understanding when working with students. Learning a new concept can be very difficult, thus, it is my job to make sure that the student is in a comfortable environment where they can voice their thoughts and questions. I strongly believe that all students can succeed in every subject; some just need a little more support than others. As a tutor. it is my goal to empower the student and have them take charge of their learning process.
Throughout high school, I tutored several of my classmates in geometry, algebra, and calculus and helped them succeed. Additionally, in college, I was a tutor for mathematics, ranging from pre-calculus all the way to calculus 4. I would lead study groups with several students at a time. My job was to facilitate discussion between the students and ensure they understood the material. Furthermore, as part of my undergraduate experience, I interned at several different elementary schools around San Luis Obispo. At these elementary schools, I would support students with their learning, whether it was with mathematics or reading and writing. Also, this past year, I have been tutoring a 6th grade student and helping her navigate her online learning. I provide support for her areas of need and reinforce the learning done in class.
In college, I took several courses that were focused on the teaching of mathematics. In these classes, I learned about the effective ways to teach mathematics to elementary students. Additionally, I concentrated in mathematics in college. Thus, I took math courses that went" less...
