"My name is Keely, and I am an experienced English and science tutor for both elementary and middle school students. I'm currently a 4.0 senior at the University of North Texas, where I major in Biology with a concentration in forensic science, as well as minor in Chemistry. I have always had strong skills in both English and science classes growing up, and my passion drove me to pursue a career where I would be able to utilize my acquired skills in both fields. I believe that one of the most important ways for a student to excel in a class is when they find their own passion within the topics being covered. While math was never my favorite topic, I enjoyed all of the predictable steps that it took in order to achieve an answer and how those steps could be repeated within multiple problems. I try to apply this in my tutoring lessons by always leaving room for the student to undergo self-exploration into the topics, readings, problems, etc. Whether that self-exploration is in the form of additional research we undergo together or finding an alternative means of teaching the subject to the student to make it more understandable, I always leave that journey up to the student to discover and lead the way towards.
I have two years of tutoring experience, with the first year being volunteer experience while I was a member of my high school's National Honor Society. I worked with middle school students in grades 5th-8th on varying topics of science, math, and English. The second year I worked with two families whose children were 8 and 10, respectively. These sessions were one on one within the family's homes, and I worked on math and English assignments with both students. I was also in communication with those students' teachers, so I had a better understanding of where they were at before our sessions every week, as well as collecting extra assignments provided by the teachers for further practice.
