"Hello! My name is Carson, and I am so excited for the opportunity to tutor your child!
I attended the University of Maine at Farmington where I studied Early Childhood Special Education (birth through age 5) and Early Elementary Education (K-3). I graduated in 2020 after completing my student teaching in a 1st Grade classroom. After graduating my Bachelor of Science degree and getting my first teaching job, I enrolled at the University of New England where I complete my Master of Education - Reading Specialist degree. I am certified to teach special education for students birth through age five, general education in Kindergarten through 3rd grade, and I am eligible to become a K-12 Literacy Specialist to provide interventions for students needing support in reading and writing as well as literacy coaching for teachers.
I have taught 2nd Grade for four years but am headed back to 1st Grade in the fall. While teaching 2nd Grade, I taught between 20 and 27 students, but also worked after school as a tutor with individuals and small groups of students as part of our After School Academy where students practiced reading, writing, and math skills. I also have experience teaching at the district's Summer Learning Camp for students to continue to practice their reading, writing, and math skills in July and August to avoid summer slide.
I have participated in professional development on differentiating instruction for students struggling in reading including students with dyslexia. My favorite things to teach are foundational reading and writing skills. I would love the opportunity to tutor your elementary-age student in any content area but have a special passion for teaching reading and writing.
I look forward to discussing my tutoring approach with you further!
