"I’m Ashley! I have a degree in Elementary Education from University of Phoenix. I am an elementary teacher, and I love every moment of teaching. I tutor after school during the regular school year. I use a variety of fun and engaging ways to teach students in math and reading. Every student learns differently, and getting to know students allows me to assess the way they learn best. I teach using differentiation to effectively teach the individual student by meeting his/her learning needs.

I believe math should be fun. I use many different resources and manipulatives to help students learn. It is important for students to be engaged, so creating an exciting learning environment for teaching math is the first step. I assess students before moving on to a new concept to make sure they have shown mastery and understanding.

Reading is the most important piece of a young students’ education. I challenge students while providing them with tools to read fluently. It is about more than reading words; it is about comprehension and fluency. I work on phonics, decoding, fluency, and comprehension using anchor charts, leveled readers, and task cards.

I use rubrics and writing resources to support students with their writing. Each student has a different need, so I use the appropriate resource for the need of the student.

I use Fundations as a primary resource for teaching phonics. I provide fun and engaging ways to teach students phonics. As the students master one skill, I build upon it to teach students to sound out words and decode words. I encourage students to not be afraid to use resources and try. This builds reading skills as well as confidence in their reading.
