"Hi, I'm Laura! I have 25 years experience as a teacher and 5+ years as a tutor. I love working with students and seeing that spark when they finally understand something they may have been struggling with. I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I have taught all grades from K-12 at least once in my career. I have taught many students over the years from ESL/ESOL students to Highly Academically Gifted.

As a teacher and a tutor, I seek to develop relationships with my students to maximize their learning experience. I have tutored elementary level students as well as high school students. I really enjoy tutoring students in Math as many believe "they can't do it" or that they "hate math." I have worked very hard to break down Math standards to make them digestible and attainable. I have excelled at creating building blocks to common core standards and have helped students master those skills.

Minoring in Math when completing my undergraduate degree and teaching and tutoring common core/state standards over the years makes me an excellent Math tutor.

I have worked in title I schools for over 10 years and have worked with ESL/ESOL students helping them to acquire basic English language skills as well as improve their academic proficiency while continuing to master the English language. I taught a self-contained 4th grade ESL/ESOL with students with little to no English to fully conversational, but struggling academically. Seeing growth and improvement in these students, brought me great joy!

I have often been told that my handwriting is like that of printed text. I have taken great pride in teaching/helping my students to improve their handwriting. I am one of those teachers who always fit it in as many others complain they don't have time to teach it. I believe that when a student's work is neat they work harder and take greater pride in what they are working on.
