"I am a writer, educator, and creative living in Houston, TX with my three children. My professional journey began when I earned my B.A. in English from The University of Texas at Austin and my M.Ed. from Texas State University. My 16 years of teaching experience spans every grade and level of high school English, from the intensive reading intervention courses I established to meet the needs of struggling Stratford High School underclassmen, to SAT prep courses, AP Language and Composition, and everything between. I also contributed regularly to district-wide curriculum development, drafted Spring Branch ISD’s essential standards with a highly-selective team of Humanities teachers, and led countless professional development sessions at the campus and district levels.
When I resigned in May of 2023, I had lofty pursuits to finish my novel, paying my way with freelance writing gigs and tips from picking up the occasional shift and my friend’s eatery. I wholeheartedly believed these changes would cure the stagnancy that accompanies staying in the same place too long. And, despite years of experience that honed my inherent talent into measurable expertise, I found teaching had become more challenging than ever. My brief hiatus uncovered a profound personal truth:
I missed teaching well before I left the classroom.
I miss employing my greatest talent in service of a greater good. To illuminate the authenticity and value of knowledge—uncover a new and mutual perspective—is nothing short of poetry. My calling is clear: to equip the next generation of learners with the strategies needed to not only be successful students, but also to cultivate the passion required to endure the innate challenges of this ever-evolving world beyond the classroom. I’m ready to change the world and I’d love you to join me." less...
