"I am an experienced engineer and scientist working at NASA's Stennis Space Center on geophysics, mathematics, and computer programming. I received my B.S. in Environmental Engineering from The Ohio State University, and also received an M.S. in Geodesy from The Ohio State University as well. Geodesy is the science and applied mathematics of studying Earth's gravitational field, orientation in space, and shape, allowing for modern advancements in technology like GPS, real-time navigation, and how the properties of the Earth change over time. I was one of 298 awardees to receive the 2019 US Department of Defense's SMART scholarship, including a full-ride scholarship, stipend, and guaranteed future employment for my master's degree.
First and foremost, I believe my strength in tutoring comes from my ability to get students interested and engaged in the topics they want to improve upon. I am able to quickly provide real-world examples of the topics they are studying to highlight the usefulness of learning the material. My ability to relate science and mathematics topics to information the student already knows allows for quick and solid learning while catering to their interests.
For the past three years I have been a guest lecturer for an international engineering program under the U.S. Department of the Navy, where foreign nationals come to the U.S. to receive critical knowledge in the field of ocean surveying. I instruct them on geophysics, mathematics, principles of GPS, and how to put this knowledge into practice so they can bring these vital skills back to support their own country's scientific agencies. I also have tutored high-school and college level students in algebra, calculus, physics, chemistry, and earth science.
I found the process of teaching incredibly rewarding. Seeing the light bulbs go off in my student's heads when I explain the material in different ways is very enjoyable. I am excited to bring my conscientiousness to a new student base." less...
