"Hello! My name is Cedar. I graduated from Texas A&M with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. I am a practicing chemical engineer and have been so for 4+ years! I am knowledgeable in all core curriculum through 12th grade, but specialize in STEM courses. I have one year of experience tutoring high school students. I gained this experience while I was a senior in high school, in 2011-12. With my high school faculty’s approval, I voluntarily assisted my peers (9th-12th grade) who were struggling with their STEM courses (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and Chemistry, in particular), so that they could pass their classes and graduate. This was done in groups ranging from 1 to 6 students and on a daily basis in 90 minute sessions after school. I tutored a total of over 100 students throughout the year. I got into tutoring because I love to teach and help others achieve their goals.
In general, I prefer teaching students on a one-on-one basis as it accelerates material comprehension and resolving any difficulties. My approach changes based on the students needs, but in general I like to get a feel for where the student is with the material, then address the gaps (if any) in understanding, and then practice to cement their understanding of the material. Throughout this process, I like to keep the student(s) focused but also want to make it an enjoyable experience by using fun teaching methods or interesting practice problems. I find that this helps to keep the students involved and helps with retention of the material.
I pride myself on my communication abilities. I’m easy to get a hold of by text and am flexible with my schedule. I just ask that any changes be made at least an hour in advance, so that I can plan the rest of my day accordingly." less...
