"Hi! I’m Carlie! I am a current journalism major and political science minor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst who aspires to be a professor. Throughout my education journey, I’ve always found English to be the most enjoyable topic. It was partially because of the subject, but more so because of the teachers who taught it. Every English class I’ve ever taken was taught by someone who made the content engaging, who went the extra mile to make sure everyone got the help they needed, and continuously encouraged everyone to do their best. I try to bring these positive teaching experiences into my tutoring approach so every student who comes to me for help leaves having a better understanding of the material and a greater sense of confidence in their abilities. I use lesson plans in which I review and introduce the top in a fun yet understandable way before teaching the material at a pace which is best suited to the student. If a student has any questions, I make sure I answer it fully before giving the student a practice question to make sure they understand it. I try to make my tutoring space feel as safe and open as possible, so the student does not feel afraid to make mistakes and grow.
I have a year of tutoring experience in english, vocabulary, and essay writing. I worked directly with middle and high school students who needed additional assistance or wanted to go through practice problems. Additionally, I worked as an elementary teacher’s assistance for the third grade. In this setting I helped the students with elementary math, vocabulary, reading, and writing.
I want to help the students I work with as much as I possibly can, because no student deserves to struggle with their education. I welcome any resources or suggestions students or parents can provide, as this is also a learning experience for me as I work to become a better tutor and educator.
I am easy to reach and will always provide fast responses. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!" less...
