I spent several years as an adjunct instructor for the College of Education at UNC-Charlotte, where I guided preservice teachers in middle grades education and instructional design. Prior to this, I taught 8th grade English at a large middle school in my area. I have also taught literature and writing courses at the local community college. Additionally, I volunteer at our local high school, working with students to craft and revise college admissions essays.
My certifications include middle grades and secondary English education and middle grades math education. I am also certified as a technology specialist K-12. During my last year as a practicing classroom teacher, I became National Board certified in ELA-Early Adolescence. My interests in the world of education include instructional design, differentiating instruction to meet varied learner needs, accelerating learning for gifted students, connecting curriculum to standards, and making learning activities feel meaningful and exciting.
Tidbits about me as a person: I enjoy reading, drinking coffee, listening to podcasts, wearing yoga pants (and sometimes doing yoga), cooking vegan meals, running, and observing my four children as they grow into amazing young teens and young adults.
My teaching philosophy is to connect with students, spark curiosity with creative instruction, and maintain open communication- and I’d love the chance to bring this approach to life with you. Join me for a class so we can explore learning together; I can’t wait to share my passions and ignite yours!" less...
