"My name is Hazel, and I graduated from Emory University in May 2023 with a Bachelor's degree in English and minor in Philosophy. From a young age, I knew I had a passion for writing and language and have honed my skills in these subjects throughout college. I have always enjoyed teaching and began with peer tutoring in high school for subjects including English, Spanish, and even Math. Since my sophomore year of college, I have been an English/ESL and writing tutor for school students and working professionals of all ages, helping with writing assignments, reading comprehension, and more.
My notable educational accomplishments include: 600+ professional lessons taught thus far; Emory Dean's List for maintaining a 4.0 GPA; 2023 Winner of Emory's The Betty and Michael Wolf Prize in American Literature; Perfect scores on ACT Writing and Essay with a near-perfect score on Reading; Near-perfect scores on SAT Reading and Writing; Achieved at least a 4 on relevant AP Exams (AP Language, AP Literature, AP Spanish Language); National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society member.
My other work experiences have mainly been in the humanities/education field. I was a volunteer arts teacher and ESL tutor, an English teaching intern in South Korea, and an intern at the U.S. Department of Education. My most recent academic role was an editorial assistant for my Emory English professor, whom I worked with on my award-winning senior honors thesis.
As I come from a background where I was not always a 4.0 student and had to learn how to get there, I will never pass judgment on my student and will do my best to get them to where they want to be in an empathetic, patient way. Please feel free to contact me with questions or to schedule a lesson, and I look forward to working with you!" less...
