"I'm Mia! I am currently a senior at UF pursuing an undergraduate degree in Classical Studies and a minor in Pathogenesis. I have taken 8 years of Latin, was president of my high-school's National English Honors Society chapter, and recently won the Alexander Grass Scholars grant for humanities research. I have also worked in UF's Cancer and Genetics Research Center and TA'd for an immersive lab course taught by my lab manager - an experience which gave me invaluable experience in teaching, organization, and communication. Language, whether it is Latin or English, has always been a passion of mine and I am excited to use this passion to help others achieve.
During high school I began to tutor other students for service hours and continued to do so through college once I realized how much I enjoyed being able to help others understand the topics I am so passionate about. I tutored many of my fellow classmates during college, primarily in my Classical Studies courses, and wanted to expand my range so I can help others even after I have completed my time here at UF. During my tutoring sessions I am able to present the student with a basic framework of material that is easily adaptable to each individual's learning styles and comprehensive needs. Everyone's brain works differently! I work best with high school or college students and can cover a range of subjects from literature to writing to editing; I am also comfortable with 6th-8th graders looking for help with grammar, reading, and vocabulary. I work best through online sessions since I find it is both effective and conducive to scheduling, but am more than willing to work out in-person sessions as well!
My goal is to help students understand complex topics in a way that helps them enjoy learning, rather than dread it. My schedule is flexible around classes, clubs, or work - please feel free to contact me for further information or to set up a session!" less...
