"Hello everyone, my name is Razzan Z. I have M.A. in English Literature from Sonoma State University and a PhD. in Education from the University of California, Davis. After I received my B.A. in English Literature from Damascus, Syria I established an ESL language center where I used multi-media to teach young children and adults to speak, read, and write English. While working on my dissertation, I worked with and interviewed children with life-threatening illnesses by collaborating with the Make-a-Wish foundation.
After graduating from UC Davis, I taught a variety of subjects during the seven years that I worked at Phoenix University in Sacramento and Fairfield, California, including English composition, creative writing, mythology, and sociology. For the past three years, I have have taught freshman English composition at Sonoma State University, Rohnert Park, California. I encourage students to embrace their own creativity, cultural backgrounds, and personal experiences When I am teaching online, I try to keep students engaged and provide activities that allow them to apply what they learned to their own life experiences. I also believe that language is culture. I have provide tutoring for many students in Arabic who want to learn this language for educational reasons as well as cultural reasons.
I speak and write Arabic fluently. I lived in Damascus, Syria for over 15 years. I have provide tutoring for many students who are interested in learning Arabic. In fact, when I was working on my MA at Sonoma State University, I had the privilege of being an Instructor in the Department of Modern Languages and Literature.at Sonoma State University. and taught a course title: Arabic 101: Simple Pathways to Arabic; Arabic 102: More Simple Pathways to Arabic.
