"Hi- I'm Nicole, and I'm a bookworm! I have always loved reading and writing, so there was really never a doubt that as an undergrad I would major in English and then- surprise- become an English teacher!
I have two Masters degrees in Education, a Master of Arts in English Education from Columbia University's Teachers College and a Master of Professional Studies in Literacy Education from Manhattanville College. My education served me well as I enjoyed fourteen years teaching ELA at the secondary level. In addition to core ELA classes, I've taught a number of electives, such as Memoir Writing, Creative Writing, Latino Literature, and Writing Workshop. I also served as an Adjunct Instructor of Academic Writing and Creative Nonfiction for Syracuse University's Project Advance. Since relocating and having my son, I have been taking some time away from the classroom, but I truly missed helping students, and tutoring has been a way to continue that.
I can help with all aspects of middle and high school ELA courses, as well as college writing.
One of my great joys over the past few years has been tutoring students for the college applications essay. I've gained a lot of experience with the Common App essay and am happy to jump in anywhere in the process, from just getting started to ready for proofreading. Last year, all of the students I helped were accepted by their top choice school. I also support students with supplemental essays and scholarship essays." less...
