"My name is Devon! I graduated from the University of Maryland in 2023 with a B.A. in journalism and a B.S. in information science. I have both formal and informal experience tutoring students of all ages and skill levels and can adapt my teaching methods to fit your needs. The writing process — whether it be for a class assignment, personal statement, college essay or something else — can be a daunting, but it doesn't have to be. I'm dedicated not just to editing and polishing students' work, but working with them to ensure measured improvement in future writing.
I have attended two Secondary School Writing Centers Association (SSWCA) conferences — presenting at one and co-delivering the keynote speech at another — and tutored high school and middle school students from 2014 to 2019. From 2020 to 2023, I worked as an editor at my university's student newspaper where I proofread and edited articles for print and web publication. This was not just marking up their work and sending it back, but asking the writer questions, making suggestions and working with them to produce the best version of their work. I edited hundreds of articles during this time, eventually rising to editor-in-chief of the paper.
I want my students to be able to apply my lessons and tips to future work and aid them in working toward mastery.
