"Hi! My name is Jonathon (everyone just calls me Jonno though). I'm from Mississippi (USA) and have spent much of my life immersed in nature whether that was simply hiking in the forests, canoeing down the Pearl or Pascagoula Rivers, or just visiting my grandmother's vast gardens.
I received my B.S. in Environmental Biology with a minor in Anthropology from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2021 while also working as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (I taught Biology and Society; a general biology class for non-science majors at USM) and Biology Tutor. Currently, I'm pursuing my M.S. in Environmental Biology with an emphasis in Plant Systematics. In addition to my research, I also act as a Graduate Teaching Assistant to the School of Biological, Earth, and Environmental Sciences where I have taught labs including General Biology 2 (Organismal Biology), Human Anatomy and Physiology 2, General Botany, and Plant Systematics. Before teaching anything in the sciences, I had a lot of experience instructing beginner piano, guitar, and drums in high school which piqued my passion for teaching. I love to help my students immerse themselves in what they're studying and watch their understanding grow (that "ah ha!" moment is my absolute favorite).
I've worked with hundreds of college-aged students in classroom and online settings as well as several high school and middle school students, and I feel confident in my knowledge of my field enough to communicate it appropriately to any age group. I'm highly adaptable and completely willing to suit students' individual needs to the best of my abilities in order to help facilitate their learning and growth. Feel free to reach out with any additional questions you might have or to schedule a lesson!" less...
