"Hi, my name is Zachary and I am a graduate of Rutgers University with a Bachelor's degree in American Studies. I received high honors in my degree from doing a senior honors thesis and graduated cum laude. I worked for three years at my university's writing center as a tutor, with two years being a lead tutor. My main focus was Expository Writing 101 where I tutored freshman students on proper essay writing techniques such as quote formatting and clarity of ideas. I also tutored Basic Composition students who would then go on to take Expository Writing. I worked with students either one on one, or in a group with up to three others. I like to keep my groups small so that my focus is not split up and I can give each student the proper attention they deserve when tutoring. I would stay with each student for the entire semester, which was about twelve weeks.
My tutoring method focuses less on editing and proofreading and more on teaching the student how to write their essays from the ground up. I try not to take direct control of the student by telling them what to write, instead preferring an approach that allows the student to come to their own conclusions with guiding questions and exercises. This allows the student to become more flexible by understanding the basic rules and building blocks of essay writing and apply those concepts to other classes and assignments, and not just the class or assignment they needed help with initially. I make sure to explain to them the purpose of each exercise I have them do, and give them enough time to do it, making it clear that I am with them through the entire process and that I genuinely want them to improve their writing skills.
I want to help each and every student that comes my way and I am easy to contact if any student is interested. Feel free to reach out and schedule a session any time." less...
