"I'm Andres! I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry and Biomedical Sciences with a concentration as a Professional Chemist. Throughout my undergraduate degree, I tutored multiple students in a variety of subjects such as Calculus, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and General Biology. However, General Chemistry has always been my favorite to tutor. My approach to tutoring is breaking down the concepts into digestible pieces after determining YOUR current level of knowledge; I start where you are and go from there. My method involves showing the normal patterns that can occur in the different types of problems that Chemistry gives and employing easy-to-follow and repeatable solutions. My goal is to teach students the type of questions they should ask themselves when presented with a problem and the general outline they should follow when presented with certain pieces of information.
I have been a General Chemistry I and II tutor for the past two years at SHSU's tutoring service on campus: the Academic Success Center. I individually worked with college students on understanding the concepts presented in their homework and quizzes. I worked with what the student gave me, so it is a more directional approach rather than just describing vague concepts with no background. I encouraged my students to work the problems with me and ask questions when working through problems together after demonstrating the required content. I understood that there may be gaps in the knowledge of students and did my best to encourage them that it is normal to not know/understand everything right away; learning anything is a process that takes time.
I have always been a firm believer in helping others, and I did this by giving students the support they needed in their General Chemistry classes. In the pursuit of helping students, I am welcome to any resources and feedback students can provide. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson!" less...
