"I’m Qasim! I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics with a concentration in Mechanical Engineering from Fordham University. I am currently enrolled in a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering program at Manhattan College. On my track to become an engineer, I have taken countless exhaustive math courses throughout the years, especially ones with professors who weren’t the most successful in clarifying concepts. Thus, this lack of clarification always made it difficult for me to solve the assigned homework problems. I, however, overcame the obstacle by first trying to fully understand underlying concepts behind each problem I was stuck on, and then went through step by step solved examples relevant to that very concept, before I finally was able to successfully solve it. This approach always worked for me! Thus, as a tutor, my number one goal is to always clarify relevant concepts to the problem my student is stuck on, and provide them with many meaningful examples to support the concept taught, which then sufficiently equips my student with enough knowledge and practice to be able to solve the problem they were stuck on successfully. In my experience, this approach has always worked for all the students I tutored.
I have about eight years of overall tutoring experience, with three years of experience as an official college tutor. I tutored many family members and friends informally all throughout high school, which was a total of four years. Here, I mainly helped them in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus. Then, for past three years in college, I had weekly hours in the Department of Physics & Engineering Physics Club Room, where I formally tutored my fellow peers in Mathematics and Mathematical Physics. The topics I helped my peers in here mainly included Calculus, Differential Equations, Probability & Statistics, Newtonian Physics, Conservation Laws, and Gravitational Laws. All of these tutoring sessions for the past eight years were always one-on-one.
