"I've been an avid artist for over a decade now. I cannot claim any special certs or education for it, and I'm certain you're aware that an artist doesn't need to. However, I do have at least 5 years of experience as an art tutor. My mother has a Master's in Education, and she is where I developed my talent for tutoring from. I believe as she does that every student is different, and should be allowed to learn at their own pace.
My approach to tutoring is very simple and effective. I will assess your current level of knowledge, and establish a general guide for the subjects or terms you need to learn. As a neurodivergent person, I understand that everyone has at least 1 or 2 methods in which they learn best by. I believe that the most tried and true method when it comes to your average student is a hands on approach. This approach is only effective if the student is properly engaged in the activity. This means you can expect custom follow up questions from me periodically to ensure proper understanding of the concepts discussed.
Most of my experience in tutoring has been high school aged students, but I don't find it difficult to tutor the younger ones either. I love to work with kids- they crack me up sometimes. I find that it's easiest to allow a student room for error in art, because how else do we learn? I like to keep my lessons fun and light hearted. It shouldn't be a chore to learn anything, and a teacher/tutor should show you not just tell you how. An example of this is my art teacher sophomore year in high school; we were going over drawing facial features which was something I was already good at. I remember making just less than 100% on that assignment, because I didn't draw my lips exactly how she would. Faces are my favorite thing- my teacher wanted those lips so segmented looking that they resembled worms rather than the skin texture. I have no regrets honestly- I don't believe in telling you how you should do something. I believe in showing you how I do it and explaining why." less...
