"Hi I'm Clarence! I am a recent Harvard graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. Despite spending my academic years programming, I have always had a strong passion for teaching and helping others.
My teaching experience began in high school where I volunteered to substitute for several middle school teachers. In college, I joined and taught at the Harvard Student Agency tutoring team for 4 years, where I worked 1-on-1 with many college/adult aged clients on a variety of subjects from SAT/ACT prep to college essays/applications and of course, computer science. During spring and winter vacation of my college years, I would resume work as a full-time substitute teacher at my local middle school. During my summer vacations, I traveled to China to attend conferences as a teacher, designing courses and leading several classrooms of students in subjects such as Computer Science, English, and Economics. Currently, I occasionally remotely teach middle to high school students how to build websites.
No matter what course I taught, no matter the age of my students - from middle school all the way through college - I always put my full effort in helping each and every student learn. For me, the greatest reward of teaching, the reason I continue to teach after so many years, has not been the grades the students receive at the end - for me, the greatest reward has always been the improvement and self-confidence my students gain afterwards. I understand where a lot of my students come from - I never touched a computer until college and learning to program was one of the most difficult things I've ever done. But the reason I was able to persevere, the reason I didn't give up was because I had so many amazing teachers along the way.
I aspire to be a teacher for all my students, past and future, like the teachers who helped me all those years ago and ensure everyone can get the help they need. I look forward to working with you, please feel free to reach out with any questions!" less...
