"I first began to study both Biblical Hebrew and Spanish while in high school. I attended graduate school for Old Testament and Hebrew studies, where I tutored Hebrew language from 2007 until I moved away in 2018. After graduate school, I had the opportunity to teach in a university setting (to college-aged as well as older adults) in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. It was difficult teaching Bible and Hebrew in Spanish, but I made it!
During this same time, I realized that there weren't very many job openings in my field, so I went back to college to pick up a Spanish degree and finished that in 2018. I hold certifications (to be renewed soon) with the Association of Christian Schools International in Bible and secondary-level Spanish. From 2010-2020 I served as Bible (2010-2020) and Spanish (2017-2020) instructor at Sevenstar, an online Christian curriculum solution for schools and parents.
I believe language learning is already intimidating, so my philosophy in tutoring is to be myself - i.e., I think, fun and humorous - to attempt to relate to students on a personal level, and thus motivate them to do their work well. Teaching is my ministry, and ministry is, by nature, relational. I think a huge component is missing in the online teaching world where a teacher treats a student as only a set of papers to grade. I really enjoy getting to know and learn about my students! That way, we can both learn together.
Thank you so much for your consideration!" less...
