"Hi. I'm Mark. I realize chemistry can be a challenging subject for some. It was for me at first! My approach to tutoring is to ensure you have a clear understanding of the chemistry concepts using easy to understand examples and applications. I also work to ensure your understanding of chemistry fundamentals is good as I believe it is important to have a strong foundational understanding as you work to understand the more challenging concepts. With me there are no stupid questions and my goal is that your confidence in chemistry is greatly increased when we are done. Learning should be fun and you should be prepared to smile and enjoy the learning experience as we go along.
I have a Master of Science and a Doctor of Chemistry degree from the University of Texas at Dallas. My undergraduate degree is also in chemistry. I have worked in both the pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries my entire (30+ year) career. It has been a fun career and I'm always happy to share my thoughts on choosing to be a chemist as a career.
Since retiring a a little over 2 years ago, tutoring chemistry is one of the things I do to help this generation of students have or develop a love for the sciences. There is so much that's fascinating about science. For about 2 years I have been conducting high school chemistry tutoring at students' homes, mostly 1:1 but occasionally in groups of 2 students. This includes on-level through AP level chemistry. During this time I have also tutored some high school students via video calls. Additionally for about a year now, I have been tutoring at a local community college in their tutoring center. This includes tutoring their introductory chemistry and general chemistry classes.
I look forward to having the opportunity to work with you." less...
