"Hi! My name is Jasmine Nguyen Tom (she/her), and I am a first-year graduate student working towards a Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics at the City University of New York – Graduate Center. This past spring, I earned my Master of Arts in Mathematics through the accelerated Bachelor’s/Master’s Pathway (4+1 program) at the University of California, Santa Cruz.
Throughout the last five years, I have gained extensive teaching experience as a math educator. Most recently, I served as a Teaching Assistant for Calculus I & II. In this role, I facilitated 2-3 classes per week comprised of about 30 students each to discuss the course material and engage in group activities. Additionally, I have served as a Math Study Hall Tutor to provide 1-on-1 support in various areas of math, including Algebra, Precalculus, Calculus I-III and Linear Algebra. Over one summer, I worked as a Paraeducator to assist with the Common Core Math Curriculum, particularly for students who were in the credit recovery program.
When granted the opportunity, I truly enjoy working with younger students on math problems and games, especially at math camps and festivals. I am a passionate graduate student and equity-minded educator who is excited to guide students through the challenges of math and to help in any way I can.
