"I have been a secondary sciences teacher since '05 at a rural school. There I am half the science dept teaching all of the physical sciences. So I have experience across many subjects: Gen & AP Physics; General, AP, & CC+ Chemistry; Physical Sci; Gen Sci; Earth & Space Sci; Astronomy; & CC+Geology. My first love in science was astronomy, then it was geology, physics made me want to teach, and chemistry has become my favorite subject to teach. I have a BA in Physics, a MS in AYA Sci Ed, a MEd in Earth Sci Ed, and a teaching license in Physical Sciences. I have taught dual enrollment/college credit plus through Urbana U. and Edison State CC. I'm also a Chemistry Adjunct Instructor at Edison. My physics degree would pay more, but I like working with students- so I teach. The true joy of teaching is seeing students be curious and experience "ah-ha" moments. Teaching my love of science is my passion.
I started tutoring because I needed the money. I didn't think I would like it- I was wrong, and I often look forward to my evenings tutoring more than I do my school day. Some of this is because I like the personal interaction, but the bigger reason is that I get to work with students who are highly motivated. My teaching experience has given me the skills of not only knowing the material that I teach, but also how to communicate that material effectively so that students understand. Additionally, being familiar with so many subjects, I am also able to draw on more experience. One of the greatest skills any teacher can have is to not only know their topic and how to communicate it, but also to identify where students are and how to move them forward. Teaching is not a one size fits all situation and individual tutoring allows for personalization.
I would love to help you - whether you share my passion for science and want to dive deeper, are frustrated at a teacher who can't individualize your education, simply want to pass a test, or you don't know what you are stuck on and just need guidance - please contact me." less...
