"Hello! My name is Jessy, and I am a tutor specializing in English literature, writing, and test prep. After graduating as the valedictorian of my high school class, I attended a private university and studied English and secondary education, graduating Magna Cum Laude. After college, I obtained my teaching license and earned a score in the 99th percentile of all test takers. I have been a middle and high school English teacher for ten years. Over those ten years, I've taught seventh and eighth grade language arts; all levels of high school general English; AP Literature and Composition; and Creative Writing.
I’ve always loved teaching. I love building relationships with all kids, finding ways to make the content make sense to them and feel meaningful. I love helping them build life skills that will stay with them long after school is over – skills like breaking down big, overwhelming tasks into manageable pieces, prioritizing tasks effectively, and persevering when things get difficult. And I love sharing my true passion for reading and writing with my students. I am fervent in my belief that every child can be successful, and I am skilled in making accommodations for students with learning differences and disabilities.
So maybe your child is struggling to keep up in high school English, and you want to make sure they don’t fall further behind. Maybe you’re a sophomore preparing for the ACT and want someone to help you break down those practice tests and explain why the answer is what it is. Maybe you love Creative Writing and want a teacher who’s as passionate about it as you are to confer with you and help you grow. Maybe your child struggles with homework in general – with those executive functioning skills that are so crucial to school and life success – and you want someone to help them build those skills. Whatever your reason for being here, I would love to help you. I am compassionate, effective, and experienced, and I will do anything I can to help my students. I look forward to working with you!" less...
