"Hi I'm Laura and I graduated from Villanova University with a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy. After several years of travel, and volunteering on the Navajo reservation, I decided to return to graduate school and completed a Masters Degree in Education. Since that time I've been committed to teaching Math and Special Education in high schools in Montana and Alaska. I have always enjoyed math and that translates to my ability to assist students learning in this subject area. However, it is my background and experience in special education that has made me an effective teacher. Working with students with diverse learning styles has allowed me to understand the needs of all learners and adjust my methodology and practice to best serve all my students. I believe all students can learn, but one approach doesn't work equally for all students. Being able to understand how a student learns and responding with differentiated instruction for that individual learner is the key to their success.
I began tutoring math online 7 years ago. I specifically tutor students at all high school math levels from Pre-Algebra to Precalculus. I have worked as an online tutor for several different companies, and some of my students have worked with me for many years. I really enjoy this method for assisting students: building math skills and finding success in their math curriculum. I also like working with students one-on-one and getting to know them despite the virtual platform. All of the students that I have taught online have shown improvement and found success.
On a personal note, I have spent most of my adult life living in the Rocky Mountains and Alaska. This is because I love the outdoors and when I am not working I enjoy hiking and backpacking, skiing, running and biking.
I am also committed to my students and will respond to emails promptly. Because I teach in a classroom during the school day I am only available to work with students after school, in the evenings and on Sundays." less...
