"I'm Brooke! I am getting a bachelor's degree at Brandeis University in computer science (expected December 2024), and I have 7 years of experience tutoring students in both English (mainly writing and grammar) and math. There are several prongs to my tutoring approach: 1) There are no "stupid questions," and there is nothing my students are expected to know from the outset, regardless of their background; 2) Regardless of how many times I've explained something, I will absolutely explain it again until my student understands and remembers the concept; 3) My student does not "know" something until they can explain it back to me; and 4) My students will be challenged.
My teaching/tutoring experiences have mostly been one-on-one with students of high school and college age, although I have tutored people of other ages, as well. My experience consists of a mixture of volunteer and professional tutoring; it is something I really love to do and am passionate about. One of my first tutoring experiences was with a student with a learning disability, who required me to explain things at a slower pace, explain them multiple times, and sometimes re-explain them in future sessions. This experience taught me that I have a talent for patience and perseverance as a tutor, and showed me how much I could change a student's life by being a committed and persistent teacher.
I'm happy to change my approach depending on the student I tutor, to receive any constructive feedback, and to communicate with my student about what works best for them. Feel free to contact me with any questions, or to schedule a lesson!" less...
