"I'm Alexander but you can call my Alex! I graduated from Mercyhurst University with a BS in Biology with a Pre-Med Conc. , and an MS in Secondary Education! Throughout college, my goal was to go to Med School in order to become an Orthopedic Surgeon. This slowly changed as I realized my true passion lies in education and teaching the next generation of prospective scientists!

During my Junior year of college, I decided to get involved in a 4+1 program, designed in educating teachers to help meet the needs of their future students. I went on to graduate a year early, and receive my MS in 4 years as opposed to the normal 5.

I try to bring Biology down to the level where my kids can truly understand. I focus on teaching the content first, then I like to show them real situations that it can be applied to. This is done in the hope that students will not only learn the content required, but be able to apply it in life going further.

I work in a high school as a certified Biology (Living Env.) instructor, as well as teach a Junior/Senior level Ag. and Sustainability course. I have about 2 years of tutoring, and 3 years of teaching experience. I work directly one-on-one with students when it comes to tutoring, the goal is to teach in a relaxed environment where we will more or less have a conversation back and forth, with very frequent and sometimes immediate checks for understanding. This is just to ensure that what we cover is understood thoroughly before moving on. Biology really requires students to learn one concept, know it, and be able to apply it to the next. As such, frequent checks are an absolute necessity to ensure understanding and learning.

I typically will hold tutoring sessions after school, and can be a bit flexible if necessary! I teach 60+ kids during the day, so my availability is skewed towards after school and weekends." less...
