"Hi, I'm Michael. I completed my PhD in Earth and Planetary Science in 2022, and began tutoring high school and college students in math and science shortly thereafter. During my PhD I focused primarily on studying how the Earth moves and deforms; my research required me to utilize knowledge of algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and physics in order to be successful. I was fortunate enough to have several undergraduate mentees who I led through projects from conception to analysis and ultimately to publication. It was in these one-on-one relationships where I learned that I am passionate about helping others understand new concepts, solve problems, and succeed at their goals.

For the past two years I have been tutoring high school and college students in one-on-one and small group settings covering a wide range of topics from algebra, geometry, and statistics to calculus, physics, and geoscience. A tutoring session with me will typically begin with a check-in to find if there was anything in class or on a test since our last session that was particularly tricky and may need extra focus. After this we’ll go through any homework or assignments the student needs help with where I will incorporate my own questions on the same material to ensure the student has enough practice. Lastly, we will briefly go over the topics for any upcoming classes or tests to either get ahead for class or to prepare for a test. These stages will vary based on the student, the course, and the session itself.

My tutoring approach generally follows an "I do, we do, you do" form, which works for many students. However, I understand that this method does not work for every student, and I am happy to work with students to find the best method to help them. My ultimate goal is for my students to achieve the goals they have set for themselves or the goals we set together and to feel confident in their abilities. Please feel free to contact me with any further questions or to schedule a session." less...
