"I spent 17 years as a humanities professor at a small college in the Midwest before relocating to NC. My specialty is religion and theology, but I taught general humanities courses that included the "Great Books", ethics, world history, literature, and philosophy. Nearly all of my classes contained substantive instruction in writing and critical thinking. I received the college-wide teaching award, and my course evaluations were consistently excellent.

I have a doctorate in theological ethics and a Masters of Divinity degree. I graduated from Hampden-Sydney College magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, and I was a tutor in the writing lab for three years. I won the college's writing award, as well as first prize in a regional fiction contest. I worked in publishing and public relations before attending graduate school, and I have extensive experience as a writer, editor, and proofreader. I also have worked with high school students in various capacities.

As a professor at a small college, I taught mainly discussion-based courses with some lecturing. One of my favorite parts of teaching, however, was time with individual students and small groups during office hours.
