"I'm Alana! I graduated from Bowdoin College with a Bachelor's degree in Biology with a concentration in Marine Biology, Ecology and Environmental Studies. Throughout college I tutored elementary school students, high school students and college students in person and online in math and science. My favorite thing about tutoring was seeing that "ah-ha!" moment in the student and their success in the classroom through an improvement in their grades. I structured the tutoring session by explaining concepts and then working through problems with the students and then giving "check-in" quizzes. The quizzes allowed me to assess what areas we needed to focus on more. I really enjoy tutoring and it was always the best feeling when student test grades improved in their classes!

Graduating from Bowdoin in Biology allowed me to develop skills in many different fields of biology as well as refine my skills in marine biology and ecology. My first job, as the Marine Biology Laboratory Technician at Bowdoin College, allowed me to sharpen my skills as a biology tutor. One of the many aspects of my job was as a teaching assistant to Bowdoin Marine Science Semester students. I helped them learn the basic biology concepts and marine biology of Maine's coast as well as the ocean as a broader picture. I created material for their learning and tutored them in the biology and anatomy of the animals living in the Gulf of Maine. I also helped them in their experimental design, data collection and data analysis.

I want to benefit the students I work with as much as I can, my number one goal is to help you be successful in the classroom!
